Family Excursions around Mölln

The region around Mölln and Ratzeburg is a true paradise for families. From short walks to full-day adventures, there is something for every age group and budget. Especially practical: Many of the best destinations, such as the wildlife park or the swimming pools, can be reached in less than 15 minutes by car. This saves you long journeys and gives you more time to enjoy.

The wildlife park in Mölln is an absolute highlight and the best part: admission is completely free! Just a 5-minute drive from the holiday home, children can observe native animals such as deer, wild boars, and eagle owls in spacious enclosures. The feeding times are particularly exciting. The adjacent nature trail playfully conveys knowledge about the forest, and a small playground awaits the youngest visitors at the entrance.

What would a family holiday be without swimming? The Luisenbad in Mölln is a beautiful natural outdoor pool directly on Lake Schulsee, ideal for hot summer days. It offers a fine sandy beach, non-swimmer areas, and a water slide. On cooler days, the indoor pool 'Möllner Welle' beckons with swimming pools and a toddler area. Both pools are extremely family-friendly and reasonably priced.

The historic island city of Ratzeburg (approx. 10 mins) is best discovered from the water. A round trip with the excursion boats of the Ratzeburg fleet is an experience for young and old. For active families, a pedal boat or canoe rental is recommended. Back on land, a visit to one of the excellent ice cream parlors on the lakeside promenade is a must – the perfect end to a day out.

For a really big adventure, day trips to the nearby Baltic Sea coast are ideal. In just about 45 minutes you can reach the famous Hansa-Park in Sierksdorf, Northern Germany's largest amusement park with spectacular roller coasters and family shows. Alternatively, Karl's Adventure Village in Warnsdorf (also approx. 45 mins) is a paradise for children with tractor rides, indoor playgrounds, and countless attractions themed around strawberries.

The Hanseatic city of Lübeck (approx. 40 mins) is not just for culture enthusiasts. The famous Holstentor can be wonderfully integrated into a family-friendly city rally. In the Niederegger Marzipan Museum, children can discover the sweet history of the city. Another major highlight nearby is the Sea Life Center at Timmendorfer Strand, where you can marvel at rays and sharks up close.

Even if the sun isn't shining, the excursion doesn't have to be a washout. The Ostsee-Therme in Scharbeutz offers huge swimming fun with a slide paradise. The bowling center in Mölln provides action. Numerous indoor playgrounds in the area (like KiKi Island) make children's hearts beat faster. Or how about a cozy cinema afternoon at the Burgtheater Ratzeburg?

Many excursion destinations around our holiday home have spacious, family-friendly parking lots. The bus connections between Mölln and Ratzeburg are excellent if you want to leave the car behind. To save on the excursion budget, simply prepare a packed lunch in the morning in our well-equipped kitchen – many parks and lakes have beautiful picnic areas.

There are special events in every season: In summer, the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg calls for great Indian adventures. At Easter, traditional Easter bonfires and Easter egg hunts attract visitors to the region. The pre-Christmas period becomes a glowing experience for the whole family thanks to the magical Christmas markets in Mölln and Lübeck.
