Day Trips around Brunsmark

Only about a 25-minute drive away is Lake Schaalsee, one of the deepest lakes in Northern Germany and part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Its protected landscape offers shoreline trails and bird-watching points. The bathing spot near Einhaus is located at Lake Ratzeburg, not Lake Schaalsee. At the PAHLHUUS in Zarrentin, you can learn more about the biosphere reserve. In autumn, the crane migration at Lake Schaalsee is an unforgettable natural spectacle.

In just 10 minutes you can reach Lake Ratzeburg and the unique island city of Ratzeburg. The lake offers bathing beaches, boat rentals, stand-up paddling, and sailing. The historic island city beckons with the Romanesque cathedral, the A. Paul Weber Museum, and cozy cafés on the lakeside promenade. International rowing regattas take place in summer.

The historic Eulenspiegel city of Mölln is only 10 minutes away. Stroll through the charming old town with half-timbered houses, visit the Eulenspiegel Museum, and enjoy the spa park. Lake Schulsee with its outdoor pool (Luisenbad) and the indoor pool (Möllner Welle) provide bathing fun. The Mölln Wildlife Park is particularly popular with families with children.

In about 40 minutes you reach the Hanseatic city of Lübeck with the famous Holstentor, St. Mary's Church, and the Buddenbrookhaus. The European Hansemuseum and the Niederegger marzipan manufactory are must-visits. Children love the Sea Life Center and the Lübeck museums. The Baltic Sea is also quickly reachable from Lübeck-Travemünde.

The region offers much more: Hansa-Park in Sierksdorf (approx. 45 min.) is Northern Germany's largest amusement park. The Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg attracts visitors in summer. Discover our favorites away from the hustle and bustle: The Salemer Moor nature trail offers a 3 km long, free wooden boardwalk through a fascinating raised bog (15 min away). At the Oldenburger Wall near Zarrentin, you can experience thousands of cranes at sunset from September to October. Take a canoe trip on the Wakenitz, the 'Amazon of the North', for 15 km from Rothenhusen to Lübeck. Lake Pinnsee is a hidden forest lake without infrastructure, promising total peace after just a 10-minute drive. The Hellbachtal offers a picturesque stream valley through a primeval beech forest (10 min). For rugged nature, the Priwall near Travemünde with its natural beach and bird sanctuary is highly recommended.

Spring (March-May): Perfect for early crane watching, extensive cycling tours through the bright rapeseed blossoms, and traditional Easter bonfires. Summer (June-Aug): Ideal for swimming in the numerous lakes, visiting the Karl May Festival, marveling at the rowing regatta in Ratzeburg, open-air cinema in Mölln, or day trips to the Baltic Sea beaches. Autumn (Sept-Nov): The best time for the impressive crane migration at Lake Schaalsee, the Mölln Autumn Market, cozy mushroom picking in the forests, and colorful autumn foliage hikes. Winter (Dec-Feb): Let yourself be enchanted by the romantic Christmas markets in Mölln, Lübeck, and Ratzeburg, go on frosty winter hikes, warm up in the indoor pool, or use the time for extensive museum visits.

Suitable destinations for trips with a dog include Mölln Wildlife Park, the bathing spot near Einhaus at Lake Ratzeburg, numerous trails in the nature park and the paths around Lake Pinnsee. Access and leash rules vary, so always follow local signs. Dogs are not permitted in many indoor attractions and amusement parks.

Parking: You will find many free parking spaces in the Mölln city center. In Ratzeburg, the P+R system is recommended, while parking in Lübeck is mostly subject to a fee. Combi-tickets: Use the Ostsee-Card for numerous discounts in the region. Public transport: There are regular buses between Mölln and Ratzeburg as well as hourly bus connections from Mölln to Lübeck. A train also runs conveniently from Büchen to Hamburg. Best visiting times: We recommend visiting the lakes best early in the morning, preferably exploring the historic towns during the week, and planning museums as a perfect bad weather program on rainy days.
