The Lauenburg Lakes are known for their excellent fish population. In Lake Ratzeburg and Lake Schaalsee, anglers regularly land magnificent pike, zander, perch, and large whitefish. Guest fishing permits and licenses are easily available for tourists at the surrounding tourist offices and fishing shops in Mölln and Ratzeburg (valid fishing license required).
Water sports on the lakes
Those who prefer to experience the water actively can paddle endlessly here. The Elbe-Lübeck Canal offers gentle routes without strong currents. On Lake Ratzeburg you can sail, surf or glide into the sunset on a SUP board. The infrastructure is perfectly geared towards gentle, nature-oriented water sports.
The best bathing spots
On hot summer days, numerous natural bathing spots invite you to jump into the cool water. The small, idyllic Pipersee, the Schmilauer See, or the well-equipped beaches at Lake Ratzeburg and the Luisenbad in Mölln are highly recommended. The excellent water quality throughout the region is regularly officially confirmed.
Boat rental & equipment
You don't have to bring your own fleet. Canoe, kayak, and pedal boat rentals can be found in Ratzeburg and Mölln right on the waterfront promenades. Here you can rent boats by the hour or by the day to discover the hidden bays and wooded islands of the cathedral city from the water.
